Classification society ClassNK has released an updated edition of its Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships.
ClassNK continuously reviews, updates, and amends its technical rules and guidance as part of its on-going efforts to improve the safety of life and property at sea, and to protect the marine environment. The Rules and Guidance are amended regularly in order to reflect the latest research results from damage investigations, as well as changes made to relevant international conventions, IACS Unified Requirements, national regulations, and requests from the maritime industry.
These amendments include requirements related to the scope of application of fire-resistant cables, requirements for Ore Carriers, the results of research and development, requirements related to the means of communication for fire-fighters, and damage investigation feedback obtained during surveys to name a few.
Both printed and CD-ROM versions of the rules and guidance are available for purchase online, and the PDF version of the rules and guidance are available free of charge on ClassNK’s website for those who have registered for the ClassNK “My Page” service.
Other recent news concerning ClassNK involves the classification society’s development in a joint venture project to install and verify the effectiveness of a new sulphur oxide scrubber technology onboard a pure car carrier.
